Simon takes his duties at Stormont very seriously and his record reflects this commitment.

Simon has made over 800 contributions in the Assembly Chamber and registered a 100% voting record at Stormont last year.

Simon had 2 of the ten best Committee Attendance records in the last Assembly and he has secured over a dozen debates including Strangford specific ones on tourism and energy.

 

Simon has used the platform presented by Stormont to do what he can to make life better for the people of Strangford.  Some of his key accomplishments include:

  • Leading the fight to secure a new DARD Direct facility in Newtownards which will see 80 public sector jobs located in the town
  • Securing a debate in the Assembly chamber on maximising Strangford Lough's tourism potential.  This battle to lead to formal recognition of Strangford Lough's unique tourism offering by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board
  • Starting the campaign to achieve Protected Geographical Indication for the Comber Potato
  • Fighting to extend energy choice throughout the Strangford constituency by successfully lobbying for the roll out of a £750,000 investment in the natural gas network in Comber
